Regatta Lepa

The following pics are from our trip 2 weeks ago to the other side of our "island". We went to a local festival that happens once a year. One of the people groups that live here are known for making boats and this particular dance. People from all over the country come to take part in the festivities.

To the right is a woman performing the traditional dance. It's pretty tricky, some girls tried to teach Daniela. The hands are easy to do, but the footwork is a whole different story!

The boats get judged on appearance and also on the performance of the people dancing on the boats. They dance to the beat of local instruments.

To the right are some younger girls performing the traditional dance.

Some locals just resting in the boat . . . watching the passerby's on the shore. It's a looong day for them and goes on for the whole weekend.

The ladies to the right work at a diving/snorkeling shop and we had met them last time we were there so it was nice to meet up again.

The girl with the pink head covering is a friend of Daniela's that lives there, we met her last year on our fist trip ever there. She is very friendly and seen here with her younger sister and a friend.

This family we just met this time. A mom with her daughters enjoying the boat show. They were nice and open in talking with us.

Justin and a friend with a famous singer! This guy is known well by locals and his songs are famous (esp at weddings!). Go figure, he was at our same hotel. Thankfully, we caught him on the way to perform ;)

PS - We promise that's not sweat on Justin's shirt, it was pouring that night! Haha!
