Fruit, rice, and another wedding . . .

Last weekend we were off to another wedding a few hours away, this was last minute notice (30 min. in advance). Thankfully, we didn't have anything majorly planned for the day so it worked out. It was a nice time to spend with our neighbors across the street.

We noticed this on the way out. To us it looked like HUGE fruit, but their reaction was more like "oh that's nothing, those are considered small!" In English it's called jackfruit. We'd never heard of it or seen it until moving here, but it actually tastes pretty good. Check out wikipedia.com to find out more info and to see a pic of how really big they can get!

On the way home from the wedding, we stopped by to visit some of our neighbor's family in the area. The family owns rice fields, which here of course rice is a big staple. This is us in front of part of the field. It's actually very beautiful, although the thought of picking all that rice sounds pretty overwhelming! With technology now a days the task is much easier, though, at least in this country. The guy told us that they use tractors now, much better than the old days!
