Even the children get involved! This town is usually not very crowded, but on this particular weekend people are coming out of the woodworks!
The evening before the boats get paraded in the water and then judged, the town holds an opening ceremony in the local stadium. It was packed! It was neat to see all the children and how they had prepared for this event as well.
We went to eat at a local restaurant that evening and these ladies wanted to have a picture taken. They were very friendly!
This was a girl that we met our last day there, we were heading back out to the airport, but decided to stop by here and check out her souvenirs.
These schoolchildren are getting ready to parade into the stadium for the opening ceremony of the festival. The things they are holding light up.
Here are some more schoolboys who are standing in front of their smaller version of the boat that they've made for the ceremony. They are also dressed in traditional clothing.
